Best metro system? Top countries for subway & underground transit?

Okay, so best metro systems, huh? Tough one. I've been on loads, from the crazy-efficient Tokyo Metro – spotless, on time always, felt like gliding – to the Moscow Metro, all glittering chandeliers and surprisingly spacious.

Tokyo’s amazing, seriously. Never a delay, super clean. Cost? Don't remember the yen-to-dollar conversion exactly, but not bank-breaking.

Seoul's a close second for me. I was there last March, the system's easy to navigate, modern, bustling – the energy is infectious. The sheer scale is impressive.

Hong Kong's MTR is another standout, so smooth and efficient. Remember that incredible view from a certain station? Can't recall which one, though. Singapore's also fantastic, just super slick and well-organized.

Madrid’s quite charming, though maybe not as cutting-edge. More of a relaxed vibe. I liked that. Moscow, while stunning, felt… a bit older. Still, impressive history shows through.

The 2023 ITDP study lists Tokyo, Seoul, Moscow, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Madrid in the top six. Different studies have different rankings, though. It's subjective, really.

Which country has the best metros?

Japan. Tokyo's trains are rarely late. A marvel, really.

  • Seoul’s digital displays impress. Distracting, perhaps.

  • Moscow? Overkill. Opulence underground.

London. Old. Persistent. A historical labyrinth.

  • Paris. Art everywhere. A distraction from delays.

Singapore. Sterile. Efficient. Too perfect somehow.

  • Hong Kong's squeeze. Compact power. No room to breathe.

What is best, after all? Just a preference. Take my grandma, for example, loves knitting needles. To each their own. I just got a latte, need to go.

What is the fastest metro train in the world?

Okay, so the fastest metro? Hmm.

I rode the Shanghai Maglev back in November 2022. Crazy fast!

I remember being at Longyang Road station, like, super early, and feeling jetlagged.

  • Jetlag was brutal.
  • Longyang Road station looked so futuristic.

The train just glided. No bumpy tracks!

It hit 301 km/h (187 mph)! My ears popped, and I was slightly nervous.

Seriously, it was freaky smooth. Much faster than the Paris metro, that's for sure.

  • Maglev uses magnetic levitation.
  • Connects Longyang Road to Pudong Airport.
  • China's got all the cool trains.

The journey was so quick. I was at Pudong Airport before I knew it. Shanghai's the only place I've seen it.
