In a 2019 survey, they scored like 6.8 and 6.5 out of 7. Those numbers were from a global study of railroad awesomeness. Source? Statista, I think.
Honestly, it makes sense, right? Japan’s bullet trains are legendary. I saw one whiz by in Kyoto, July ’18, headed towards Osaka. Priceless memory, even if the ticket, shinkansen ticket, was like $130. Worth it.
Hong Kong’s MTR is super clean, on time, and gets you everywhere. I used it loads when I was there. Efficient, I guess, but I miss the street food more, lol.

Seriously though, Japan’s train system is legendary. Try comparing it to, say, my attempts to fold a fitted sheet. Hopeless. Utterly hopeless.

- Shinkansen: Bullet trains that are, like, actually bullets. Speedy.
