Which is cheaper, Laos or Vietnam?
Laos vs Vietnam: Which country is cheaper for travel and living?
Okay, so, Laos vs. Vietnam on the cheap? From my travels, Laos seems to edge out Vietnam, but it's close, seriously. Think tiny, kinda slow-paced paradise, but don't expect the bangin' infrastructure Vietnam has, y'know?
For budget-friendly digs and eats, Laos is usually easier on the wallet. I paid like, 10USD a night in Luang Prabang (11/2019) at a guesthouse! Seriously basic, but clean. Vietnam's hostels are good, but you'll spend a bit more, usually.
But, get this, getting around Laos can actually be pricier. The roads aren't always the best, and buses take a while to go anywhere. I remember a bus trip from Vientiane to Vang Vieng, maybe cost me $15, took like, 4 hours. (02/2020).
Transportation and accommodation are cheaper in Laos. You might find yourself spending $20-$30 a day in Laos if you watch your pennies.
Both places are amazing value for money. But if you're aiming for the absolute rock-bottom daily spend, Laos just might take the crown. I mean, who doesn't want more Beerlao for their buck, amirite?
