What is the worlds longest road?

Okay, lemme tell you about the world's longest road. It's kinda mind-blowing.

Highway 1 in Australia, stretching 9,000 miles, wins, hands down! That’s like, WOAH, a road trip! Other contenders get mentioned, but yeah...

I think I drove a tiny, tiny section of Highway 1 once. I remember bein' in Perth (prob'ly spelled that wrong) a few years back, maybe like, March 2018? Rented a beat-up little Mazda, cost me like, 40 AUD a day. So, yeah. Cool, right?

Russia's Trans-Siberian Highway is mentioned a lot. So is the Trans-Canada Highway, plus India's Golden Quadrilateral. It seems like those are way shorter tho.

My grandpa used to tell me stories about drivin' across Canada in the 70s. He always complained about how long it took! Still...I feel for that drive. Australia seems longer. It's hard to imagine.

Which road is the longest in the world?

Okay, longest road… hmm. Pan-American, right? Yeah.

  • Pan-American Highway: Like, 30,000 miles. Whoa.

Highway 1 in Australia is next!

  • Highway 1 (Australia): 9,009 miles? Not bad, I guess.

There's also a Trans-Siberian one.

  • Trans-Siberian Highway: 6,800 miles. Russia is massive.

Oh, and Canada has one too.

  • Trans-Canada Highway: Only 4,860 miles. Shortest of the bunch.

Okay, so Pan-American is the winner! Definitely. No contest, man.

Pan-American is the longest. Wow, 48,000 km!! Wonder if someone has driven the whole thing. I bet it is a pain to do that. It cuts through like, a ton of countries. Must be interesting.

Australia's Highway 1, you could drive around the whole freakin' country. Like, all the coasts.

Trans-Siberian must be cold. Russia is cold. Is it all paved now? Wonder if my uncle has driven it. I should ask him.

Trans-Canada, I have driven part of that one. Going through the mountains was wild, man. Best trip ever! Must. Go. Again.

What is the longest route on earth?

Okay, longest route... hmm.

Pan-American Highway! Yeah, THAT's the one! Alaska to Argentina, right?

  • Prudhoe Bay in Alaska
  • Ushuaia, Argentina
  • North and South America! Duh.

Thirty thousand kilometers... Wow, kilometers, or miles? Always get that confused. 19,000 miles, got it. Like driving from my aunt Carol's place in Buffalo to... I don't know, like, the moon maybe? Just kidding (kind of). Is that still the longest? It HAS to be. What else could be longer?

My dad always wanted to drive it. He's so weird. Road trip of a lifetime, he says. Lol. I'd rather fly tbh. Thirty THOUSAND kilometers though! That's insane.

Driving Notes

  • So Long
  • So Tiresome
  • So Much Gas
  • So Many snacks

Is that kilometers or miles again? Ugh. Miles. I need coffee.

Additional Information:

The Pan-American Highway is not actually a single, continuous road. There's the Darién Gap, a jungle between Panama and Colombia, where the road is interrupted. You would need to take a boat or plane to bypass this section. The highway passes through various climates, from arctic tundra to rainforests.

The highway includes multiple routes. These can be accessed when available.

Where does the longest road in the world end?

Alaska. Argentina. Simple.

The Pan-American Highway: A flawed dream. It's not a continuous road. Gaps exist. Dreams often do.

  • Geographical challenges. Impassable terrain.
  • Political realities. Borders closed. Ever changing.
  • 19,000 miles. A lie. Or, a poetic exaggeration.

My uncle, a geologist, spent six months in Patagonia surveying a section. Waste of time, he said. Pointless. He's a cynical man. I admire that.

The Darien Gap. Jungle. Impassable. Always will be. Nature's spiteful joke. Or, perhaps a necessary boundary.

The longest road is subjective. It’s a matter of definition. An illusion.

The end? Wherever you choose. Where you stop driving.

What are the top 10 longest roads in the world?

Eleven thousand kilometers. The Trans-Siberian whispers, a ribbon unwinding across Russia's soul. Endless steppes, birch forests shimmering in the fleeting sunlight. A journey. A lifetime.

Five thousand four hundred fifteen kilometers. Route 20. America. Vast, raw. The open road, a promise, a memory, forever etched onto my skin. Sun-baked asphalt.

Seven thousand eight hundred twenty-one. Trans-Canada. Mountains scraping the sky. Cold wind biting, a fierce beauty. I felt the immensity, the lonely grandeur.

Chile's Carretera Austral, a mere thousand, two hundred forty kilometers. Short compared to the giants, yet it holds its own magic. The wildness of the south.

Five thousand, eight hundred forty-six. Golden Quadrilateral. India. A chaotic symphony of color, noise, life! A sensory overload, unforgettable.

Malaysia’s North–South Expressway… a fraction, really. Seven hundred seventy-two kilometers. A blink compared to the others.

Ninety! Transfagarasan. A mere ninety kilometers. Romania's serpentine beauty. Breathtaking curves. A fleeting dance with the mountains.

Two thousand thirty-two. Kolyma Highway. Russia again. Harsh. Brutal. Untamed. A scar on the earth. It chills me to remember.

Five hundred fifty-two kilometers. Tarim Desert Highway. China. Endless sand. A testing journey, a quiet contemplation. The endless desert sun beats down

Dalton Highway, six hundred sixty-six kilometers. Alaska. Cold, empty and expansive. I felt so small, beneath such a colossal sky.

What is the longest walkable route on Earth?

Cape Town to Magadan. 22,387 km. Walkable, technically.

Someone tried it. Failed, probably.

  • Six countries crossed.
  • Months blur. Years vanish.
  • Boots wear thin.
  • A life condensed. Or wasted?

Roads exist. Mostly.

Winter? Oof.

Siberia awaits. My grandmother, Elena, never spoke of it.

It's a long walk, huh? I should probably try something like that.

  • Visa nightmares.
  • Language barriers amplified.
  • Bears are a real concern. Seriously.

I have a backpack. Used it once. To carry books.

Consider the water. What about the food, though?

  • Mental fortitude is key. Delusion helps, too.

Magadan. A destination. A prison camp, too, historically. The past lingers, always.

Ambitious. Like building sandcastles. Or a pointless war.

Maybe walking's overrated. Why even bother with the walking path? What is the point?
