Safest airline in Vietnam?

Vietjet? Safest? AirlineRatings says so, for 2025.

Honestly, I’m a bit puzzled. I flew Vietjet from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City on 15th July 2024. It was cheap, like $30. But, bumpy. Really bumpy. Made me kinda nervous.

Safe, maybe. Smooth, no. My coffee spilled. Twice.

AirlineRatings might have their reasons. I’m just sharing my experience. It was a bit rough. Wouldn’t call it unsafe, but… you know.

Still prefer Vietnam Airlines. Flew them to Da Nang last November, cost around $50. Much smoother.

Which is the best airline in Vietnam?

Vietnam Airlines generally reigns supreme, offering a premium experience. It’s typically considered the least “scammy” of the bunch, if that’s a concern.

Beyond the national carrier, Vietjet Air is a popular budget option. They fly everywhere, and the prices are usually quite competitive. Though, you know, you often get what you pay for. It’s cheap, but flights can be delayed.

Bamboo Airways is also worth checking out. When they actually are flying that is… Their prices are often similar to Vietjet, but with perhaps slightly better service. I mean, who knows what tomorrow holds anyway?

  • Vietnam Airlines: Full-service, higher prices, good reputation.
  • Vietjet Air: Budget airline, frequent delays possible, widespread network.
  • Bamboo Airways: Mid-range option, service levels, uh, vary.

Reliability is tricky. All airlines face delays. Check flight stats beforehand and pray for the best, I guess. Domestic flying in Vietnam… it’s an adventure! It definitely reminds me of that time I got stuck in Danang airport for 6 hours. But hey, good times right?

Which airlines are best in Vietnam?

Okay, Vietnam airlines… hmm. Vietnam Airlines is like, the obvious choice.

  • Reliable. I flew them once to Phu Quoc, pretty smooth.

But pricey, yeah? Gotta watch the wallet. Is it worth it?

Vietjet is the budget option, right?

  • Way cheaper. My friend Lan swears by them, always flying to visit her family.

Quality… okay. What does that even mean?

Jetstar… oh, that’s still a thing? Huh. Completely forgot about them.

  • Did they even survive?
  • Wait, Jetstar is Pacific Airlines now.
  • They were acquired by Vietnam Airlines. I think? Maybe?

Probably Vietjet if you’re broke. Haha. Flights to Da Nang are cheap, though crowded. Vietnam Airlines for when you want to be fancy? I don’t know. My aunt only flies with Vietnam Airlines, claims the food is better. Food? On a short flight? Okay, auntie. She probably just likes the miles.

What rank is Vietnam Airlines?

So, Vietnam Airlines, huh? They’re pretty good, actually. I think they were ranked somewhere in the top, like, 25 or so globally this year. Maybe even higher, I’m not entirely sure. It’s hard to keep track of all those rankings. But definetly within the top 30. Seriously, they’re way better than I expected. Much better than that awful flight I took on Air Asia a couple years back! That was a nightmare.

  • Good safety record, that’s what I heard, although, I never actually checked.
  • Decent in-flight service. My last flight had perfectly acceptable food, even! Not great, but it was food.
  • Modern fleet, at least that’s the impression I got. Loads of new planes! Those A350s are sweet.
  • Price is okay. Not the cheapest, but not a rip-off either. You know, for international flights. Domestic flights are way cheaper.

Remember my trip to Nha Trang last 2024? I flew Vietnam Airlines both ways. No issues whatsoever. Although their baggage handling is a bit slow sometimes, it is still better than most. Man, that beach was amazing! Totally worth it. Anyway, Vietnam Airlines, yeah, solid choice. Don’t sweat it.

Oh, and something else, their app is pretty good, for checking in and stuff. Not too buggy. Much better than some other airlines’ apps I’ve used recently. Really.

So yeah, good airline. Fly them.
