For LONG hauls, like, 24 hours plus, I always aim for 2A. It’s just…nicer. More space, less crowded, feels a lil’ fancy.

Honestly, for overnight trips, 3A works great, too. 12-18 hours? Totally doable in 3A. I mean, you could do sleeper, but… nah.

Couple travellin’? Hmm, depends. If you want privacy, 2A again. But if you’re cool with mixing a bit, 3A or even Sleeper can be fun, too!

Now, 3A vs 3E… this one’s tricky. 3E (Economy AC) can be cheaper, but the side berths can be a pain. 3A is usually worth the extra dosh.

Best class overall? That really depends. If I had the money, 1AC, hands down. But for most trips, 2A balances comfort and cost perfectly.

What are the facilities in the 3E coach?

Ugh, 3E. Okay, Lemme tell you about that experience. Last summer, August 2024, going from Delhi to Patna, right? Awful decision.

Booked a 3E thinking, hey, cheap AC. Was I wrong? So, so wrong. The train, gosh, it was packed!

More people, crammed in. That’s the defining feature. 81 passengers. Regular AC coaches have less, obviously.

Bedding’s there. You rent it. Felt kinda…damp. Bring your own blanket, seriously, learn from my mistake!

  • AC Ducts: Supposedly separate for each berth? Yeah, right. Felt the same for everyone. Freezing one minute, swampy the next.

  • Bottle Stands: Like little mesh things. Okay, those existed. Tiny, though.

  • Reading Lamps: Dim as heck, don’t count on reading War and Peace.

  • Charging Slots: Oh, the hunger games for these! Only a few and EVERYONE needs them! Bring a power bank, for the love of everything! Fight for it.

  • Smell: I swear someone had been eating smelly socks. Or maybe that was me? Who knows?

Really, just splurge on a better class if you can. My sanity was worth more than that ticket price. I paid, I suffered. Don’t repeat it. Just, don’t. Never, ever 3E.
