Okay, Hong Kong.

I mean, I was there in, like, 2023, totally crammed onto a subway car in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong’s MTR is amazing. Seriously.

It’s not just trains, though, right? Ferries, buses… EVERYTHING connects.

I was visiting my cousin, Emily. She lives near Central–insane rent, btw! And we zoomed all over.

It was, like, rush hour chaos, but efficient rush hour chaos.

Compared to, ahem, my hometown’s sad excuse for public transit? Night and day! Seriously.

It felt so safe, even late at night.

I think that is because of the number of people using it.

Other factors that make their transport system one of the best is because:

• Robust rail infrastructure

Hong Kong, China? Seriously? They’re rocking the public transit harder than my grandma rocks bingo night.

Hong Kong? Best public transport? Who knew! I always figured it was, like, unicorns pulling rickshaws. But nope. It’s them.

• Affordable, they say. Probably cheaper than parking my rusty ’98 Corolla.
• Stations everywhere! More than Starbucks, fer sure!
• Rail so robust, it could probably survive a zombie apocalypse.

And all that, apparently, adds up to being the bestest. Who’d a thunk it? I should move there.

Forget the Corolla, get me a train ticket! And maybe a dim sum, while I’m at it.

Okay, so 2024, right? I was in Hong Kong for a month, March to April. Hong Kong’s MTR? Absolutely phenomenal. Seriously, I never waited more than three minutes for a train. Anywhere. Peak hour? Still fast. Clean, efficient, air-conditioned. Heaven, compared to the New York subway. I felt so safe too, unlike London’s tube sometimes.

Zurich was good, but different. More laid-back, not as frenetic. Hong Kong’s sheer speed is something else. I almost missed my flight because it was so easy to get around. Took me less than an hour to get from Lantau Island to the airport. Incredible! That speed thing is what makes it stand out.

Stockholm was nice. Clean, modern, but slower. I remember that long walk to the station, then a delay. Helsinki? Pretty but the trams were crowded, always packed at rush hour. I really prefer the MTR.

Singapore’s MRT is efficient. Very clean, but it lacked that… Hong Kong vibe. You know, that crazy energy, that seamless flow. It felt less intuitive somehow, more of a planned thing than a living, breathing system. I liked the Octopus card though, so convenient. Tokyo’s amazing, obviously, super organized. But still, Hong Kong wins.

Oslo and Paris were good in their own ways, but after Hong Kong… they paled. I mean, seriously, Hong Kong sets a new standard. That’s my opinion.
