Why does Google Maps not show some routes?

How do I see all routes on Google Maps?

Okay, so like, last Tuesday I was trying to plan a trip to my Aunt Carol's house in Poughkeepsie. Ugh, that drive. Anyway, I was using Google Maps, obviously.

I wanted to see, like, ALL the possible ways to get there 'cause traffic is always a nightmare, right?

So I searched for Carol's address first. Obvi. Then I hit "Directions."

I remember thinking, “There has to be a better way!” 'Cause Maps usually just shows you the one best route, not all the routes.

I finally figured it out! Near where it shows where you start, there are three little dots, right? I tapped those little dots.

• Search Destination: Search for the place you want to go.
• Directions: After that, choose the directions.
• Route Options: There should be three dots.
• Multiple Choices: There's a bunch of options you can pick there.
• Done!: You just click "Apply" and it's set.

And there it was, "Route options"! Like, duh, right? You can choose which routes by selecting options. It’s pretty helpful! It helped with the drive to Aunt Carol's place for sure.

Why do some places not appear on Google Maps?

Ugh, Google Maps. Why can't I find my aunt Carol's new bakery? It's gotta be on there.

Is it just too far? Google Maps does prioritize nearby stuff, right? Like, when I search from my apartment, only things in my neighborhood pop up first.

Hmm. Thirty miles? Carol's place is definitely more than 30 miles from here. More like... 50? Or is it 60? Doesn't matter, it's far.

Maybe I should try searching from her town? That's clever, actually!

• Distance matters a lot. I saw somewhere that Google uses your location to tailor results.
• Specificity is key. 'Bakery near Mephis, TN' probably works better in Memphis, TN than where I am.
• Accuracy of address. Is she sure she typed the address right when she listed it? Important point!
• Maps updates. Maybe it just needs time? Carol only opened last week, after all. Google Maps takes time.

I remember that time I couldn't find that cool coffee shop. Turns out, I was spelling it wrong! Stupid me. Spelling counts!

Carol better have claimed her business. She needs to claim the business!

• Claim your business. So important for local search.
• Keep info updated. Hours, phone, address, all of it.
• Photos, photos, photos. People respond to visuals. More important now more than ever!

Okay, so Google Maps is acting like a stubborn mule and won't show you all the routes? Sheesh. Probz because it's having a hissy fit.

Here's the dirt, straight from the horse's mouth:

• GPS is drunk. Your GPS is more lost than a politician's moral compass. Recalibrate, pronto! My grandpa always said a broken compass is worse than none at all, and maps is kinda like a compass, right?
• Internet's slower than molasses in January. Google Maps needs a steady flow of internet to function, y'know. Check that connection, or you might as well use carrier pigeons. Remember those? Or not, if you're under 30.
• Location services are hiding. Maps needs to know where you are, duh. It's like trying to play hide-and-seek when you can't see anything. Turn those services on!

Plus, there are all these other reasons that pop up like weeds in my garden.

• Outdated App: If it’s old, like my flip phone, it's gonna give you trouble! I still have that phone btw!
• Google Maps needs a chill pill. Cache and data overload can make it sluggish. Clear it, or it'll act like a toddler who’s skipped naptime.
• Map data is as bad as my last painting attempt. Sometimes, map data ain't perfect. Just deal with it, or choose the scenic route. Who needs Google then anyway, right?
• Restrictions. Google may be playing favorites. Are routes blocked?
• Traffic, Man! If traffic's bad, or Google thinks it's bad, your route gets a straight up veto. No other ways, you're forced down the dreaded highway.
