Why is it so cheap in Vietnam?
Why is Vietnam so cheap for travel and living expenses?
Okay, lemme tell ya 'bout Vietnam being cheap.
Honestly, it's 'cause folks just don't make as much money there. That's the core truth.
Vietnam's income per person isn't super high, agreed. WTO says "middle level" - basically, wages are lower. This means everything from your banh mi to your tailor-made suit is gonna cost less.
Think about it: My pho in Hanoi cost me like, maybe $1.50 (October 2022). Same meal, similar quality, back home? Easily $15. Seriously.
It bleeds into everything touristy too. I snagged a motorbike rental in Hoi An for $5 a day. Five. Dollars. (June 2023). Wild, right?
See, the low income thing drives everything down. It's basic economics, mostly.
Plus, they're really good at making stuff cheaply. Think of all the clothes you buy that are "Made in Vietnam." It's a whole ecosystem.
It's also not "cheap" like, bad quality. Just… different. My tailor in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) made me a linen shirt for $30. Incredible deal.
So, yeah, low wages = lower prices = cheap travel. It's pretty much that simple, but feels magical when you're there. Makes me want to go back rn.
