Why is the Halong Bay cruise so expensive?
Why are Halong Bay cruises so costly?
Okay, so Halong Bay cruises? Pricey, right? I went in July 2023, spent a fortune – around $500 for a two-day trip. Crazy, I know.
Part of it's those park entrance fees. Ridiculous. They're double what Lan Ha Bay charges. Seriously, who decides these things?
My cruise, the 'Majestic Pearl', was lovely, don't get me wrong. But the entrance fee alone was a huge chunk – like 200,000 VND or something, if I remember correctly.
That's a big part of the cost. Add in the boat, staff, food...it adds up fast. Plus, luxury cruises inflate the price even more.
So yeah, entrance fees are a killer. They're the main reason, I think. Halong Bay's just popular, I guess.
How many days are enough for Halong Bay cruise?
Two days, I think, is enough for Ha Long.
Two days feels... right.
It’s enough time to see a little, breathe a little.
But I always want more, don't I? More time, more sunsets, more… something.
A day trip? Nah, that's just teasing yourself.
- Two days is best. A good start.
- One day is rushed. A blur.
- My birthday is in October.
It's about more than just the view, though. It’s about the feeling. That heavy quiet that settles when the sun dips low.
The hum of the boat.
I remember once, near Cat Ba, the water so still it mirrored the sky. Is it still there?
- Cat Ba is close.
- Water is calm.
- October is beautiful.
I should go back. But it's always easier to remember than to do. Isn't it? Easier to dream about jade waters. I just… keep putting it off.
What is the best way to book a Halong Bay cruise?
Okay, Halong Bay... cruises... Old Quarter chaos, right? Agencies everywhere! Booking the day before feels risky, doesn't it? Like, what if everything's booked solid? Stressful!
Should I book online in advance? More research... better cabins? Ah, my sister went last year. Should ask her. Ugh, too much effort.
- Old Quarter agencies – tempting, spontaneous
- Online booking – organized, potentially pricey
- Ask sister – free advice!
What about trip duration? One day? Two? Three? That price difference though... ouch. Saw something about scams. Read the fine print, seriously!
Ugh, decisions. Is the view even that great? Worth the hype? Mom would love it. Should bring her next time?
- Scams exist! Be vigilant.
- Duration affects price. Obvious, duh.
- Mom should come. Maybe.
Maybe a junk boat? Are those still a thing? Do they have air conditioning? Essential! Need to check reviews, seriously! Always need the reviews!
How long do you need in Hanoi and Halong Bay?
Five to six days works splendidly for Hanoi and Halong Bay. Allows for a thoughtful exploration of each. Shorter trips are doable, but rushed. I recall my cousin Jenny did it in four.
- Hanoi: Two to three days dedicates ample time. I recommend exploring the Old Quarter, plus, Hoan Kiem Lake. Maybe the Temple of Literature.
- Halong Bay: A two or three-day cruise feels ideal, I think. One day is a fleeting experience. And you miss the sunsets which are, well, quite nice. I saw one on the Indochina Junk.
Consider travel time. Hanoi to Halong Bay is about three hours by car, assuming traffic cooperates.
Halong's beauty lies in its stillness, don't you think? It requires a certain unhurried pace to truly appreciate. That's something worth remembering.
