How much is a $50,000 car payment?

Fifty grand for a car? Wow. I mean, fifty thousand dollars? Just picturing it makes my heart race… but in a bad way, you know? Like, the kind of heart race you get when you realize you’ve accidentally overdrawn your account. Because seriously, a $50,000 car loan… What’s that payment gonna be? Over $700 a month? Maybe more?! Ouch. That’s like… my entire grocery budget, plus some!

I remember seeing this ad once, this shiny little SUV, all decked out, and they were like, "Drive away for just $XXX a month!" So tempting! But then you dig into the fine print, and suddenly you're locked into a seven-year loan with a crazy interest rate. It's like, how are regular people supposed to afford anything anymore? I mean, I work hard! Don't we all? It’s just… disheartening, you know?

For me, personally, I'd have to really think long and hard about whether a $50,000 car – even a dream car – is worth that kind of financial burden. I mean, is it really worth sacrificing, what, vacations? A down payment on a house? Just for a fancy set of wheels? I'm not so sure... There's gotta be a balance, right?
