Can I make up my own telephone number?

No, you can't create your own phone number. Mobile numbers are assigned by phone companies and are subject to regulatory control. While virtual numbers and number masking services exist, these use existing numbers and don't let you invent one. You choose from available numbers offered by your carrier.

Can I create a custom phone number?

Okay, so, can you just, like, make up a phone number? Nah, not really.

Mobile numbers? Big telecoms hand those out. They're, uh, supposed to be regulated, you know? Like, rules 'n stuff.

I think I read somewhere (Quora, maybe?) bout how you can sometimes, kinda sorta, pick a number, or at least part of it, from a list they give you.

I always wanted a number with my birth year, but no luck yet.

But straight-up creating your own? Like pulling digits out of thin air? Pretty sure that's a no-go. Unless maybe it's a virtual number?

I do remember paying $5/month back in Feb 2021, specifically for a virtual number so i could keep my work & personal life separated.

Anyway, yeah, telecoms own those number blocks, not us.
