How do I check if my internet connection is secure?

To check your internet security:

Click your Wi-Fi network name, then Properties. Look for Security type. WPA2 or WPA3 indicates a protected connection. If it says WEP or Open, your network is not secure.

Ugh, internet security, right? It’s one of those things you know you should worry about, but it’s so easy to just… forget. Like, I remember once, I was at a coffee shop, totally engrossed in my work, and I just automatically connected to their Wi-Fi. Didn’t even think twice. Crazy, huh? Anyway… how do you actually check if your connection is safe?

So, here’s what I do, and I’m no tech expert, so this is super basic:

First, you find your Wi-Fi network name – you know, the one you’re connected to. Then, usually, you click on it, or right-click, depending on your computer. There’s always some sort of “Properties” option, right? That’s where the magic happens.

Look for something that says “Security type” or something similar. This is the key. Now, if you see WPA2 or WPA3 – fantastic! That means your connection is using decent encryption. Think of it like a really strong lock on your front door – hard to break into. But if you see WEP… oh honey, run away. Seriously, it’s like having a flimsy latch on your door; anyone could waltz right in. And “Open”? That’s practically an open invitation for cyber-criminals. I mean, anyone could just connect; no password, nothing! Scary, right? That happened to my cousin once – someone totally drained his bank account through that unsecured network! So, yeah, avoid open networks at all costs, unless you’re okay with your info being, well, not so private.

Basically, WPA2 or WPA3 is what you want to see. Anything else? Time to get serious about security! Maybe switch to a different network, or – even better – get a VPN. I know, I know, it sounds complicated, but it’s basically like an extra layer of protection, keeping your data safe even on public Wi-Fi. It’s something I’m meaning to look into more, actually… I should probably do that soon.
