Remember that time I tried to do 100 push-ups in a row? Yeah, let’s just say I regretted that for a week. My muscles felt like they were on fire, and I swear I saw stars.
Building up slowly is the only way to go, otherwise you’re setting yourself up for disaster. Total burnout? Absolutely. A pulled something-or-other? Highly likely. Even with lighter weights – and I’m thinking of that S&S program, you know, the Simple & Sinister one? – even then you need rest days. I tried pushing through one time, ignoring the nagging ache in my shoulder, thinking “I can do it!” Nope. Three days of barely being able to lift my arm. Learned my lesson big time.
Listen to your body, people! It’s not just some machine you can push to the limit every day. It’ll tell you, loud and clear, when you’re overdoing it. A little ache is one thing, but that dull, persistent throbbing pain? That’s a sign to back off, get some rest, maybe even ice it. I think a lot of people forget that, you know? They’re so focused on the numbers, the reps, that they ignore the important stuff. Don’t be one of those people. Your body will thank you for it. Trust me on this one.
