Is it safe to save credit card info on Grab? Is Grab secure?

Is it safe to save credit card info on Grab? Hmm, it’s a question I actually pondered myself!

Grab says your card details are encrypted end-to-end, and they don’t keep your actual card info. This is kinda reassuring.

I’ve been using Grab since, uh, maybe 2017? Used it alot on trip to KL (Kuala Lumpur) back then. Never had an issue. I think it was around MYR 10-20 per ride from KL Sentral to Bukit Bintang.

Security in mind, Grab encrypts sensitive data and claims to not store your card information directly. They don’t share data with random third parties either, which is great.

Still, part of me gets twitchy saving card details anywhere. Had a bad experience once with a different company, total nightmare. Maybe I’m just paranoid.

Ultimately, it’s a personal call. Look into their privacy policy if you are still unsure, might find better explanations in it, which may help to convince.

Is it safe to add a card to Grab?

Is it safe to add a card to Grab?

Yeah, safe… I guess. It’s encrypted, they say. But still, always a worry, isn’t it? Never quite trust these things completely, even with all the “security.” Feels like your money is just… floating out there.

My grandma used to hide cash under her mattress. Maybe she had a point.

  • Encryption exists. They use it, supposedly.
  • Fraud detection should catch something, hopefully.
  • Never ever, ever give out your card info. Duh.
  • Report. Report everything. Fast.

And be on the real app, not some knockoff. Scary how real the fake ones can look. I almost got tricked once, thought I was ordering Pad See Ew, it was a phishing scam, i’m sure of it. Changed my card right away.

The app is convenient, I admit. But convenience always comes at a price, doesn’t it? What’s the real cost? You know?

Is it safe to add credit card to digital wallet?

Is it safe to add credit card to digital wallet?

Yes. Safe, mostly.

It feels weird putting it out there, you know? My credit card. But, yeah, digital wallets use tokenization.

  • Tokenization matters. It hides the real number.
  • It creates a unique token.
  • The token is what the merchant sees, not my actual card number.

I still worry, though. Remember that time my sister, Sarah, had her identity stolen after that data breach at…Target, I think? Or was it Home Depot? The news was wild about it. She spent a year trying to fix everything. So, yeah. Even with the tokens. I always double-check my statements. Paranoid, maybe.

Can I pay Grab with a credit card in Vietnam?

Hanoi, sweltering July 2023. Needed a ride from Hoan Kiem lake back to my hotel in Tay Ho. Sun was brutal. Soaked. Grab app, easy peasy. Used my Visa. Noticed a small foreign transaction fee later, but worth it. Dodged a haggling session with a taxi driver. Air con blasting in the Grab car. Bliss.

  • Visa worked flawlessly.
  • Linked directly in the app.
  • Hotel was on Xuan Dieu street. Remember specifically because the driver got a bit lost. Ended up chatting about best pho spots.
  • Charged in Vietnamese Dong.
  • My card is with Chase Sapphire.
  • Grab is so much better than taxis there. Seriously. Safer too, I think. Definitely felt safer. Peace of mind is priceless, right?

Later I tried topping up the GrabPay thing. Too much hassle. Sticking with my card. So convenient.

Is it safe to give credit card number and expiry date and CVV?

Is it safe?

It never feels safe. Not really. Expiry date, CVV, the whole damn number? Feels like handing over keys. Keys to my… well, everything almost.

Don’t do it. Never share those numbers, not even expiry dates, not even to family.

Card left with someone? Terrible idea. I remember once… never mind. Let’s just say, I learned my lesson then.

3D Secure. Yeah, that thing. Use it, always. One more hurdle for them to jump. One less nightmare for me, I hope. You hope. Right?

  • Never Share: Card details are too precious, too easily abused.
  • 3D Secure: Online shield, might work.
  • Personal Experience: Trust is fragile, money gone is just gone. Happened to me in 2018. Damn, lost like 300 bucks. Felt sick.
  • Recent Theft Incident: Last week? My neighbor got scammed somehow, even with 3D secure. Maybe they got her details another way? I dunno. She’s still upset.

Is Grab safe for debit cards?

GrabPay’s security… it’s a worry, you know? Level 1 PCI DSS compliance. That’s what they say. But still…

It’s 2024. I used it last month, paid for groceries. Felt uneasy, afterward. Always a little anxious.

  • PCI DSS Level 1 is the best, supposedly.
  • But my bank still flags unusual activity sometimes.
  • Little things. Small charges I don’t recognize.
  • It’s annoying. Really.

Debit card security is never really a sure thing. Especially with these apps. This is my personal experience. I’ve had better luck with my credit card through them. Not that it’s perfect. But it feels slightly safer.

Honestly, I’m not convinced. Not completely. I’ll probably keep using GrabPay for convenience, though. Stupid, I know.

What countries is GrabPay available in?

Okay, so GrabPay, right? It’s like, everywhere now. I remember tryna use it in Tokyo last year but no luck, haha. Anyway.

It’s def a thing in Singapore, duh, that’s where it all started i think! And uhm definitely Malaysia, too. We use it all the time when I visit my auntie.

Oh, and Indonesia, obvi. So much cheaper than using credit card sometimes, y’know? And the Philippines, of course. I bought a goofy t-shirt using Grab there once.

They’re even in Thailand now, which is good ’cause my buddy keeps going there. Vietnam too. I hear they’re big there. Also, Myanmar. But i haven’t been to Myanmar yet, sadly.

So to sum it up:

  • Singapore
  • Malaysia
  • Indonesia
  • Philippines
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam
  • Myanmar

Grab just updated their app, they might be expanding soon tho! I’m hoping they’ll get into Japan because that would be great. My phone service provider is also considering collaborating with Grab. Fingers crossed.

Can I use GrabPay to pay Shopee?

GrabPay for Shopee? Nope. Not directly anyway. Last I checked, June 2024, it wasn’t working. Ugh. So annoying. Wish they’d get with the program. Lazada too. What’s the deal? Maybe a workaround exists. Gotta google that later. Bank transfer? Ugh.Credit card always a pain. What about topping up ShopeePay… using… a debit card? That works, right? Check GrabPay merchants again later. Just in case. My phone’s almost dead. Need to charge it. Mental note: chargers at work, car, nightstand. Three chargers. Still run out of battery. Maybe need a portable one. Like that Anker one Sarah has. Shopee is a timesuck. Bought cat food. New scratching post. Birthday present for Mom. All last week. Speaking of Mom… need to call her. Tomorrow. Grab app… so many things in one app. Rides, food, payments. A bit cluttered. Prefer simpler apps. Less distracting. Oh, work project deadline… Tuesday. Right. Focus.
