That 3-month visa I got once, back in maybe 2019, I think it was for Hanoi, cost me maybe fifty bucks.
It let me in just once, right. For a full 90 days, not just a month.
But the thing is, if I'd hopped over to Cambodia even for a day trip, poof, gone. The visa would have been toast.
So yeah, if you want to hang out longer than those 90 days, you absolutely have to sort out an extension.
They don't just let you keep staying; it's not how it works, apparently.
