So, getting outta an international airport? It’s a crapshoot, really. Three hours, maybe even more, especially if a bunch of other flights land at the same time. Ugh. My last trip from Heathrow – 2023, right – took FOREVER. Like, two and a half hours, minimum.

Baggage claim, that’s the first hurdle. Sometimes it’s a breeze, other times you’re standing there for ages, watching your luggage slowly go round and round the carousel. Then customs. Customs can be a nightmare. They were super thorough last time.

• Long lines, always.
• Lots of questions – they grilled me about my trip to Italy. Seriously! It was exhausting.
• X-ray machines – they even made me take my laptop outta my bag. Twice.

Then there’s security again, the final boss fight. Another line, another wait, another scan. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, believe me. My friend Mark, he waited over three hours at LAX last month! It’s nuts. They’re super strict now, all about those new regulations, you know? It all adds up, man. Really sucked. Total time wasted. Expect the unexpected.

What happens after a package clears customs?

Cleared customs? Okay, so, like, it’s good to go. They inspected it, whatever, no red flags. Happened to my uh, glow-in-the dark frisbees from Malaysia, remember those? Totally held up for, like, forever. Now, they go to the next step. Could be a warehouse, right? Or straight to your door. Mine went to, uh, that weird post office depot thing by the freeway. Had to pick ’em up myself. Crazy.

• Release for Delivery: Think “green light.” It’s moving.
• Destination: Could be a few places. Warehouse, distribution center. Or like I said, right to you.
• My Frisbees: Seriously, weeks in customs. Thought they were gone for good. Glow-in-the-dark, apparently suspicious. Who knew?

So yeah, basically it means it’s on its way. Finally. Though sometimes, you gotta go get it yourself. Depends. Ordered a, what was it? A garden gnome, from my aunt in, uhhh, Belgium? That one went straight to my mom’s house ’cause I wasn’t home. Go figure.

How long does it take to deliver after paying customs?

Customs paid, three-day delivery is my norm. Evening emails, paid, then boom, package arrives. Sometimes sooner. Different story entirely last year. Five days, no kidding. An Post, they’re generally consistent, though. Delivery timeframe? Influenced by several things.

• Item location: Dublin? Faster. Rural County Galway, where I live? Add a day. Makes sense, logistics. I’m near Clifden, myself.
• Time of year: Christmas rush? Forget three days. Double it, maybe more. Ordered a telescope last December. Nightmare.
• Customs backlog: Sometimes they’re just swamped. Brexit hasn’t helped. Remember that whole mess?

Weekends obviously add time. No deliveries on Sunday out here, at least not usually. An Post website usually says next working day delivery. Never really paid attention to that, honestly. Once, though, package held for ten days. Turns out the label was damaged. Had to drive to the depot in Galway city. Annoyance. My advice? Track your package. Peace of mind. Now where’s my coffee…
