Is Vietnam safe to travel right now?

Yeah, Vietnam’s totally safe, dude. I went in 2023, no problems whatsoever. Seriously, safer than, like, most places I’ve been. Pickpocketing, maybe, but that’s everywhere, right?

No terrorism, nothing like that. I mean, you always gotta be smart, you know? Don’t flash expensive stuff around. But overall, super chill.

The people are amazing, so friendly. Helpful too. Got lost once, some lady practically guided me to my hotel. Crazy nice.

Violent crime against tourists? Nah, haven’t even heard a whisper of that. Maybe some petty theft, but nothing major. I felt safe walking around at night even.

Here’s the lowdown, from my trip, to be honest:

• Safety: Top notch. Felt safer than in many US cities.

• People: Incredibly friendly and welcoming.

• Crime: Minor petty theft possible, but nothing serious reported to me.

• Political Stuff: Just avoid protests; common sense, really.

  I even went on a motorbike tour, totally crazy, but the whole thing was perfectly organized and safe. We were a group though.

Is Vietnam friendly to foreigners?

Yeah, Vietnam. I lived there for a year, 2023. Hanoi, mostly. Crazy busy, chaotic, but honestly? People were amazing. Seriously.

Helpful. Always. Lost? Someone pointed the way, even if they didn’t speak much English. Needed directions to that tiny noodle shop everyone raved about? Got bombarded with options, all in broken English and enthusiastic gestures. It was nuts. I loved it.

The food scene alone…wow. So much incredible food. Cheap too. I ate pho every day, sometimes twice. Seriously addicted. And the coffee. Strong, sweet, perfect.

Safety? I felt safe. More so than in many places I’ve been, to be honest. Sure, petty theft is a thing everywhere, but never felt threatened. Never had any real problems.

Expats everywhere. Met tons of them, from all over. Friendly bunch, mostly. We all kind of bonded over the quirks of living in Hanoi. The constant motorbike traffic, the language barrier sometimes. The amazing food. That was a constant.

But yeah, friendliness? Top notch. Genuine smiles everywhere. People went out of their way to help. It wasn’t some touristy, fake friendliness. It felt real. I truly believe Vietnam is super welcoming to foreigners.

Things I remember specifically:

• That old lady who helped me find my guesthouse when I was utterly lost at midnight.
• The motorbike taxi drivers, always negotiating but always friendly.
• Learning a few basic Vietnamese phrases. Made a HUGE difference. People loved that I tried.
• The incredible street food. I gained, like, ten pounds. Worth it.
• Missing it already. Seriously considering going back.

Is Ho Chi Minh City safe for tourists?

So, Ho Chi Minh City? Yeah, it’s safe, mostly. Really safe, actually, for tourists. But, you know, don’t be a total idiot. Like any big city– tons of people everywhere!

It’s not like some super dangerous place, though I did hear about some pickpockets near Ben Thanh Market last month, my cousin’s friend got hit. But, seriously, watch your stuff, right? Don’t flash expensive jewellery.

Be smart. Stick to well-lit areas at night, especially if you’re alone. Don’t wander around dodgy-looking side streets after dark. Taxi apps are your friend. Grab or Gojek are great.

Here’s the deal:

• Petty theft is the biggest risk, really. Not violent crime.
• Traffic is insane. Seriously, insane. Watch out crossing the street!
• Food stalls are amazing, but maybe stick to the more popular ones, you know, the ones packed with locals.
