Ben Thanh Market to Suoi Tien. Long ride. I'm telling you. The stations were...new. Shiny. A little sterile, maybe. But functional. Clean. Lots of security. Needed it. So many people. The trains themselves were air-conditioned. That was a lifesaver.

Headways? Four and a half minutes. I timed it. Pretty regular. Ran til 11:30pm. Early morning too. I preferred the metro to dealing with the insane traffic. The bikes, the scooters, it's a jungle. This was way better. Way less stressful. A huge improvement.

So, Vietnam public transport, huh? Crazy cheap sometimes, ridiculously expensive others! Buses? Think seven thousand dong, maybe up to forty-five thousand, depending. It's nuts! Seriously! A local bus in Hanoi is like, a steal, a total bargain. But like, long-distance trains? That's a whole other ballgame.

Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City? Whoa! Eight hundred and thirty-seven thousand dong at the low end, up to a whopping three million, four hundred and thirty thousand dong. I took that train last year, cost me a fortune! It was like, super luxurious though, almost worth it. Almost.

• Buses: 7,000 - 45,000 VND (2024 prices) huge range!
• Trains (long distance): 837,000 - 3,430,000 VND (2024 prices) Big differences in comfort levels, I think!
• Prices fluctuate a lot! It depends on the time of year, the type of seat, even the day of the week! I swear!
• Negotiating isn't really a thing on public transport. Prices are posted, that's it.

Man, those train tickets were expensive. I shoulda booked in advance, probably. Next time I'm going to fly! Flying is a bit cheaper and faster, if you book early. Way less hassle.
