How to travel from Hanoi to Hoi An? Best transportation options?

Flew Hanoi to Da Nang last May. Landed, grabbed a taxi straight to Hoi An. Easy peasy.

Da Nang (DAD) is closest airport to Hoi An. Quick flight, amazing views of the coast.

Taxi from Da Nang to Hoi An cost me about 400,000 VND. Took about 30 minutes. Got there around 3pm, 10th May, checked into my guesthouse near the old town.

Could have taken a bus, but honestly, flying saved so much time. More time wandering Hoi An’s charming streets. Worth every penny. Spent the next few days exploring the ancient town, loved it.

How much is the bus from Hanoi to Hoi An?

Hanoi to Hoi An? Buses? Hmm.

$18. Thirteen hours. 6 AM. 8 PM. Zero buses.

  • Price: Cheapest seat.
  • Time: Thirteen hours is an eternity. Bring a book. Or don’t.
  • Schedule: Check directly. Schedules change. Like the wind.
  • Frequency: Daily routes? Zero. Fly instead. Or train.
  • My take: Did this trip once. Never again. Take a plane, or a train is ok too, but the bus? What a nightmare.
  • Extra info: Don’t trust everything you read. Especially from strangers.

Consider this a sign.

How to get from Hanoi to Hoi An by bus?

Ugh, Hanoi. Sticky July 2023. Sweltering. Needed to get to Hoi An. Fast. Cheap. Bus. Sleeper bus. Wasn’t fast.

Giant monstrosity of a bus. My knees jammed against the seat in front. Blaring Vietnamese pop music all freakin’ night. Gah.

  • Sinh Tourist. Remember that name. They’re everywhere.
  • Got the ticket near Hoan Kiem Lake. Little tourist office. Like 20 bucks.
  • Took forever. Maybe 18 hours? Seriously.
  • Stopped a bunch. Bathroom breaks. Food stops. Ugh, the food. Noodles again.
  • Bring earplugs. Seriously. And an eye mask. The lights. Never turned off.

Arrived in Hoi An. Exhausted. Sticky. But hey, saved money. Right? Worth it. Maybe. Needed a shower so bad. And a real bed. Not that bumpy death trap. Hoi An Ancient Town… so pretty though. Forgot about the bus…almost.

  • Book online. Might be cheaper. Sometimes. Check.
  • Take a flight. If you have the cash. Seriously.
  • Train is an option too. Longer, but maybe more comfortable? Idk.

Never again. Next time, flying. Even if I have to sell a kidney. Seriously. Those buses. Ugh. Hot. Sticky. Loud. So loud. Never. Again.

  • Pack light. Seriously. No space on that bus.
  • Download offline maps. Phone died. Lost. For a while. Not fun.
  • Learn some basic Vietnamese. “Cam on.” Thank you. Useful.

How to book a bus ticket in Vietnam?

Bus terminals. Chaos. A digital option exists. Websites like Vexere, Baolau. Easy enough. Convenience has a price. Sometimes higher than street purchase. Bargaining. A lost art online. Consider the trade-off. Time versus money. Your choice. The bus will arrive regardless. Destinations fixed. Journeys vary.

  • Vexere: Popular aggregator. Many companies listed.
  • Baolau: International reach. Other transport options too.
  • Direct company websites: Futa Bus Lines. The Sinh Tourist. Sometimes cheaper.

Bus travel in Vietnam. An experience. Not always pleasant. But always memorable. The landscape unfolds. Life happens on the road. Remember to bring snacks. Hydration crucial. The journey is the destination. Or something like that. Ultimately, you arrive. Another place. Another story. 2024. The year of the rabbit. Irrelevant, but true. My birth year, incidentally.

Is there a credit score in Vietnam?

Vietnam’s credit scoring? Yeah, it’s a thing. Different. CIC, the Credit Information Center, runs it. Their own scale. Not like FICO. Think of it as their in-house ranking. Why even have one? Lending decisions, of course. Risk assessment. Makes sense. Always about risk.

  • CIC manages Vietnam’s credit system. Keeps tabs on everyone. Not sure I like that.
  • Separate scoring scale. Probably confidential. Proprietary.
  • Influences loan approvals. Big deal for borrowers. Impacts interest rates, too. Makes getting a mortgage harder. Even credit cards.

Credit scores… weird. Reflects your financial life. Like a judgment. My neighbor, Anh, struggled to get a business loan. CIC score was low. Now he’s selling banh mi. Delicious. Anyway, worth checking your score. Just in case. Planning to refinance my motorbike.

  • Borrowing history matters. Late payments sting. Like a bad tattoo. You regret it later.
  • Credit utilization impacts score. Maxing out cards? Bad news. Keep it low. Like 30%. That’s what I do.
  • Multiple credit inquiries lower score. Applying everywhere? Looks desperate. Banks don’t like that.

CIC website. Should have more info. Need to dig around. Data privacy… something to think about. Where does all that info go? Food for thought. My motorbike needs new tires. Better check my score.
