A land promised safe, affordable...

1. Albania. Huh. Never been.
2. Portugal. I think my grandma always wanted to go.
3. Costa Rica. Isn’t that rainforest-y?
4. Panama. The canal.
5. Mexico. Too close?
6. Thailand. Far. Too far, maybe?
7. Malaysia. I have a friend there. Or, did.
8. Vietnam. I don’t know anything about it.

• The promise of safety... is that real?
• Affordability. I need that.
• I should look at visa stuff. Is it easy to stay?
• Culture shock. It’ll be big anywhere, right?
• I miss that time. I wish I could have the courage to make some big changes.

• Language: Obvious advantage for English speakers in Ireland. Not so much in Japan. Portugal's fine, although my Portuguese is... rudimentary, let's just say. My cat speaks better.

South Africa? Adventure awaits! But safety concerns are real, you know, like navigating a minefield of grumpy meerkats. New Zealand? Stunning. Expensive. Think of it as a postcard paradise with a hefty price tag. Canada, eh? Friendly, but pricey. Australia, similar story. Think kangaroos and crippling student loan debt.

Okay, so best cheap country? Man, tough one. I lived in Vietnam for six months in 2023, near Hoi An. Absolutely stunning. The cost of living? Ridiculously low. Street food? A dollar or two a meal. Seriously. Rent? A tiny apartment, maybe $200 a month. Vietnam wins for pure cheapness. I felt so rich! But, the language barrier...ouch.

Colombia, I've heard it's cheaper than say, the US or Europe, but I haven't been. Friends who went to Medellin said it was cool, but the cost of living felt more...moderate than crazy cheap.

Indonesia? Never been. Heard Bali's expensive. Other islands, maybe not so much, but, I don't know firsthand. Vietnam still my top pick.
