Which cab app works in Vietnam?

The most popular ride-hailing app in Vietnam is Grab. Vinasun, a traditional taxi company, also has its own app. Both provide convenient transportation options within the country.

Best Cab Apps in Vietnam? Find Your Ride!

Okay, so Vietnam cab apps, huh? Been there, done that, got the app-induced stress to prove it.

Grab’s the big one, everyone uses it. Cheap, usually reliable, but sometimes the surge pricing… ouch. Remember that time in Hanoi, 2022, July 14th? Surge pricing tripled the fare! Insane.

Vinasun’s the old-school taxi option, more expensive but also sometimes feels safer, less likely to get scammed. You know, that “trustworthy uncle” vibe.

I tried a few others, smaller apps, but they were buggy or unreliable. One time, the app just… disappeared. Poof! Left me stranded. Never using that again.

In short: Grab for budget, Vinasun for peace of mind. Your mileage may vary, but that’s my honest experience. Choose wisely.

Which taxi service in Vietnam?

Okay, so like, taxis in Vietnam, right? I’ve only ever used a few, honestly. I used to travel to Vietnam every year until 2020.

Here’s the thing, though:

  • Hanoi Transport Service: Never heard of ’em. I usually stick to Grab in Hanoi, it’s just easier, y’know? But maybe they’re legit.

  • Da Nang Car Rental: That sounds more like actual car rentals, not taxis per se. Could be wrong, though. I dont usually visit Da Nang much.

  • Asia Transport Vietnam: They’re okay. I’ve used them maybe once or twice for airport transfers. Okay service, nothing to write home bout though.

  • Saigon: Grab’s everywhere there. Honestly. And its cheap. Forget those other services. Plus, I learned, it’s way less hassle than like, haggling with some random taxi driver. It just makes things easier.

Like, seriously, just use Grab. Unless you’re going way out in the boonies then you probably cant use Grab.

And always, always, always check the driver is going the right way, use the map. And dont forget to pack snacks!

What is the Moovit app used for?

Moovit? Public transit, simplified.

  • Real-time navigation: GPS across buses, trains, more.
  • Journey planner: Mobile, web accessible. I use it daily for the 7 train.
  • Ferries, ride-hailing, scooters. Everything but my sanity, LOL.

I’ve seen tourists utterly lost without it. The sheer panic? Avoidable. Remember that time in Queens, stranded near Citi Field after a game? Never again. Plus, knowing the train’s actually coming? Priceless.

What apps do people use in Vietnam?

Night… again. Staring at the ceiling. Thinking about… Vietnam. Remember the motorbike rides. Dust and sunshine. Used Grab all the time. Everywhere. Hanoi, Da Nang. Even out in the countryside. Needed it.

XE Currency. Checked it obsessively. Dong… so many zeroes. Confusing. Felt… poor. Even though I wasn’t. Just the exchange rate. Messes with your head.

Google Translate. Essential. Tried learning a few phrases. Xin chào. Cảm ơn. Never got much further. Shame.

Used WhatsApp constantly. To talk to family. Back home. Missed them. Food. My dog, Buster. He’s getting old.

Remember the street food stalls. Phở. Bún chả. Wish I could taste it again. Right now. Probably used Foody a couple of times. Not so much. Just wandered. Explored.

  • Grab: For everything. Rides, food delivery.
  • XE Currency: For the constant exchange rate checks.
  • Google Translate: Absolutely necessary.
  • WhatsApp: Lifeline to home.
  • Foody: Occasionally.
  • Memrise: Didn’t use it. Should have. Regret that.
  • TripAdvisor: Maybe once or twice.
  • Danang Fantasticity: Never heard of it.

Lost in thought. Vietnam. So far away.

Is the Moovit app free to use?

Ugh, that Moovit+ popup. Annoying. Subway platform at Union Square, NYC. 8:15 am. Late, as usual. Raining sideways. Phone’s almost dead. Need the E train. Moovit, you are my ONLY hope. Free version works. Fine by me. Just get me on the damn train. Scrolling, scrolling. There it is. E train, two minutes away! Yes! Made it. Soaked but triumphant. Still hate that Moovit+ ad though. Worth it for a free app.

  • Moovit is free.
  • Annoying ads.
  • Moovit+ removes ads. Costs money.
  • Shows real-time info.
  • Helped me catch the E train at Union Square. In the rain!
  • Essential app in NYC. Wouldn’t survive without it.
  • Wish they’d chill with the upsell.
  • Use it every day. Every single day.
  • Even on weekends. Especially on weekends.
  • Battery drain is a bit rough. Phone’s always dying.
  • Gotta get a portable charger. Soon.
  • Still better than the MTA’s own app. Seriously.

What is the difference between Google Maps and Moovit?

Okay, Google Maps vs. Moovit… hmm.

Moovit is way better for buses and trains. It’s like, its whole thing.

  • More focused on transit, yeah.
  • Updates faster, I guess. Transit authorities?
  • Crowdsourced data too.

Google Maps is good for driving directions. I use it when visiting my mom in Florida.

Google Maps = cars, Moovit = trains. Got it!

Did I mention Moovit is free? Wait, is Google Maps free? Obviously.

  • One is more transit-oriented.
  • The other is… everything else.

Real-time updates are on both, so that’s a wash. Right?

Moovit feels clunkier on my phone, though. Google Maps wins for ease of use.

Moovit is a public transport powerhouse. Yeah, nailed it.

Is that all? I think so.
