Worlds Most Efficient Transportation System?

Hong Kong’s public transport? Crazy efficient, seriously. I was there last October, navigating the MTR – subway – a breeze. So many lines, super clean, always on time.

Seriously, getting around was a doddle. Cheaper than London, too. Probably around £2 a ride, maybe less. No stressful taxi hunts.

That Urban Mobility Readiness Index thing? Sounds legit. Makes sense, though. The sheer density of Hong Kong, the MTR’s reach… it’s genius. Beat London hands down.

Remember that insane climb up to Victoria Peak? The tram up there was… eventful, but the system got me there. That’s efficient transport.

Hong Kong’s transport system is the best. Efficient, affordable, extensive. Full stop.

Which country has the most efficient train system?

Japan. Efficiency, a cold metric. Hong Kong follows, close. (6.8 and 6.5). Scores.

  • Japan: Punctuality is ruthless. Consider the bowing conductors. Ritual.
  • Hong Kong: Density demands efficiency. Little room for error.
  • The 2019 data? Irrelevant now. Focus on present, always. Like my old Nokia 3310. Still works.
  • Efficiency isn’t everything. Cost matters. Comfort, maybe even aesthetics.

Efficiency is a double-edged sword. I once missed a train. Destination: oblivion. Almost. Life is what happens between train schedules, y’know?

Which country has the most efficient railway system?

Japan and Hong Kong, huh? Japan and Hong Kong hogged the glory, like always. I bet their trains even make my grandma’s knitting needles look slow.

Japan scores a whopping 6.8! Hong Kong’s right behind with a 6.5! Out of 7, they are almost perfect. Guess they’re running trains on unicorn farts or something.

But, hold on, wait a minute. A 2019 survey? That’s, like, ancient history. Time for an update! Here’s why those surveys need a serious revamp:

  • Things Change, Ya Know: 2019 was before, uh, EVERYTHING changed. You know, that thing we don’t talk about that changed EVERYTHING!
  • Technology Marches On: Maybe Switzerland now has trains powered by fondue fumes. Who knows? (I don’t, ok?)
  • Surveys are, well, surveys: They are like polls, but with trains, and polls are never accurate, like never ever.

So, yeah, Japan and Hong Kong were the big dogs. Maybe they still are, maybe not. Who am I, a railway oracle? But it’s like saying my flip phone is the best phone in 2024. Just a tad obsolete, is all I’m saying.

Which country has the highest rail usage?

China. No contest.

772.8 billion passenger-kilometers. A staggering number. India close behind, but irrelevant.

Scale matters. Infrastructure. Population density. Simple economics.

Think of it: 772.8 billion journeys. Each a story. Mostly mundane. Some profound. All transient.

  • China’s dominance is undeniable.
  • India’s vastness, less efficient.
  • Japan: refined, concentrated.
  • Russia: sheer distance.

This data, 2023 figures. Subject to revision, but unlikely. My personal travel in 2022 confirmed Chinese rail density. Overwhelming. A visual assault even. Trains everywhere. Exhausting.

The sheer volume—a human river, flowing on steel.

High-speed rail. A game changer. Economic impact? Immense. Social too, perhaps. I observed this firsthand in Shanghai, last year. My own trip, uneventful.

China’s success: planning, execution, sheer scale. A monument to pragmatic efficiency. Cold, perhaps, but effective. A testament to… something. I don’t know. Doesn’t really matter.

Which country has the largest train system?

Alright, so the U.S. has the biggest train set in the world. Like, ever. Think of it as a really, really long model train track your uncle put together in the basement. Except, you know, it spans a continent.

We’re talkin’ about 220,480 kilometers of iron horse highways. That’s like, circling the Earth… a bunch of times. Maybe. Okay, I’m bad at math.

It’s mostly private companies, yeah. Seven big dogs – Class I railroads, they call ’em. They haul everything. You name it. From potato chips to presidential secrets, probably. It’s a whole lotta shippin’, my friend.

More Train Facts (because why not?):

  • Freight is king: America’s train system is all about moving stuff. People? Eh, not so much. We’re a car culture, y’all.
  • Amtrak exists: Yes, technically, we have passenger trains. Don’t expect high-speed luxury, though. Think of it as “scenic,” and pack a lunch.
  • Gauge craziness: “Standard gauge” is the most common, but some tourist lines use narrow gauge. Apparently, things get weird in the train world.
  • History, baby!: Trains used to be HUGE. Now, they’re mostly for the freight biz. The wild west, the gold rush… Trains were a BFD.

Yeah. Trains. Neat. Gotta go. Pizza’s here.
