Why does everyone love Tokyo?

Why does everyone love Tokyo? Seriously, it’s a question I’ve asked myself a million times. Okay, so Tokyo, right? I mean, I get the hype, totally get it. It’s not just the neon lights – though, those are pretty amazing, aren’t they? And the tech? Forget about it. I remember seeing this robot dog in a shop window once, it was so realistic I almost pet it. Crazy!

But it’s more than just shiny things, you know? It’s the whiplash-inducing change of pace. One minute you’re lost in some tiny, perfectly-manicured temple garden, feeling this incredible sense of calm – like all the worries of the world just melt away. Then, bam, you turn a corner and you’re in Shibuya crossing, that insane scramble of people, surrounded by towering buildings and flashing screens. It’s overwhelming, exhilarating, and completely exhausting, all at the same time.

That contrast, that ancient-meets-utterly-modern vibe… I don’t even know how to describe it. It’s intoxicating. Like, truly. I remember this one time, I was eating the most delicious ramen in this tiny little hole-in-the-wall place – seriously the best ramen of my life – and then I walked outside and there was this guy playing the shakuhachi flute. It was so peaceful, such a beautiful melody. And it was just… there. Unexpected, completely beautiful, and completely Tokyo.

It’s not like any other city. I’ve travelled a bit, you know, seen some things, and honestly? Nothing compares. Maybe it’s the food – the sheer variety is insane. Maybe it’s the people – so polite, yet so energetic. Or maybe it’s just that unique energy, that constant buzzing feeling, that keeps you on your toes. Whatever it is, I’m completely hooked. Have you been? You should go. You really should.
