• Check alternative routes. Buses. Other train lines. Don't be precious.
• Accept delays. Embrace the chaos, kinda.

Now what? Depends. Meeting vital? Call them. Blame traffic, no matter what. If it’s just grandma’s, she’ll understand. She always does.

Stuck? Explore. Find the best coffee near the station. Or just stew in regret. Your call. I’d probably choose the coffee. Last train? Find a hotel. Expensive, but beats sleeping on a bench. Been there. Done that. Not repeating it. Consider it a lesson. One costly lesson.

I once missed a train to Berlin. Ended up in Prague. Seriously. Best mistake ever. So, missing a train isn’t the end. Maybe it's the beginning.

• Advance tickets are only valid on the specified train. That’s the deal.
• "Easements" can happen. Like if your first train was late causing you to miss your connecting train
• Certain train companies have a 2024 updated policy where you can pay a "change fee".
• Always, always, keep any evidence of delays (screenshots, emails, etc.). Saves headaches.
• Be nice. No screaming. Train staff are people. It'll get you nowhere.

Can I use a train ticket twice?

Okay, so, train tickets. Lemme tell you about my experience. Last summer, around July, yeah July 2023, I was going from London King's Cross to Edinburgh. Had this open return thing, right?

Thought I could, like, stop in York for a day, then continue to Edinburgh. Turns out? You totally can!

But, that open return? It's a one-time deal between stations.

• Open Return Ticket: One way is possible.
• Breaking Journey: Approved.

I learned this because I tried to use the same ticket again, a week later, to go back to York from Edinburgh. Nope. Big nope. The inspector at Waverley gave me this look. Like, seriously dude?

"Can't reuse it, mate," he said.

• Same Journey: Not possible.
• Ticket Validity: One-time use.

Felt pretty stupid, gotta admit. Had to buy a whole new ticket. That sucked, big time. Cost me, like, 80 quid, because I didn't plan ahead. Ugh. So, lesson learned: use it once per direction. No tricks.
