No direct train to Halong Bay exists. Travel by train from Hanoi to Ha Long City (2-3 hours), then transfer to a bus or taxi for the final leg to Halong Bay's tourist area. Plan accordingly.

Hanoi to Halong Bay Train: Is it Possible?

Ugh, trying to get from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay by train? Forget it. No direct train exists. Seriously, I tried looking into this last year, July 2023, for a trip with friends.

So, you gotta take a train to Ha Long City, then another leg. Bus or taxi, your choice. A taxi would have been like 30 bucks extra, but faster.

The train ride itself, Hanoi to Ha Long City? Figure two to three hours. Remember that. It’s a decent chunk of time. Totally doable, though. Just factor it in.

Ugh, Hanoi to Halong Bay? Train situation’s a mess. No direct train, that much is certain. Stupid. Gotta go to Halong City first. Train to Halong City takes, what, like three hours? Then another taxi, right? Thirty minutes to an hour.

So annoying. I prefer buses, actually. Faster than trains most times, especially with all the stops. Plus, less crowded. I took the 7:00 AM bus last year from Ha Noi to Halong. It was a disaster, it was packed like sardines. Will definitely not do that again.

Tour operators offer combined tickets? Interesting. Makes things easier, I guess. Less hassle. Probably more expensive though. I hate dealing with tour groups. Too many people. Too much waiting.

Limousine bus option exists too, apparently. More convenient, yeah, but pricier. Worth it if you’re lazy. I’m not lazy, but I’m considering it for my trip in December.

My friend went last month, took a private car, ridiculous expense, but she had a great time. She said the views were stunning!

Hanoi to Halong Bay travel is complicated. Plan accordingly. Train plus taxi/bus is the most affordable option. Limousine bus is quicker, costlier. Ugh, decisions, decisions. I’m heading to my cousin’s place in Ha Noi first. We will be there for a few days, before heading to Halong bay.

  • Train to Halong City: ~3 hours
  • Taxi/bus to Halong Bay: ~30-45 minutes
  • Limousine bus: Direct, more expensive
  • Combined tour tickets: Available, simplifies transfers.
  • Private car: Expensive, but convenient

Dark outside. Thinking about travel. Hanoi…Ha Long Bay. No train straight through. Remember that. Wish there was.

Train to Ha Long City. Takes time. Two, three hours. Maybe more. Then another ride. Taxi. Or bus. To the bay. Another hour. Ugh. Exhausting.

Train/bus combo ticket. Saw those online. Easier, I guess. Still…two legs. Not ideal.

Limousine bus. Direct to the bay. Yeah. Remember seeing that too. Costs more. But…less hassle. Direct. Worth it, maybe. Ugh. Decisions. So tired. Just want to be there. On the water. Quiet.
