Hundred plus… fancy cocktails. Rooftop bars. Private car. Did I pack my good sandals? Lost one in Barcelona. So annoying.

Food. Banh mi. Must have banh mi. Every day. Maybe twice.

Transportation. Grab. Easy peasy. Used Grab all over Bangkok. Super convenient.

Ugh, packing. Always overpack. Sunscreen. Essential. Burned so bad in Cancun last year. Never again.

Accommodation… Airbnb? Hotel? So many choices. Overwhelmed. Decisions, decisions.

Oh, cash or card? Both? Gotta check exchange rates. Dollars to dong. Dong… sounds funny. So many bills. Wallet bursting.

Can you do a day trip to Hoi An from Da Nang?

Okay, so last July, my sister and I, we did this day trip to Hoi An from Da Nang. It was hot, ridiculously hot. Seriously, I’m talking sweat-dripping-down-my-back hot. We took a bus, not one of those fancy ones, a local one. Packed, you know? People everywhere. The bus came every ten minutes, though, they’re not lying about that.

The ride itself was fine. About half an hour. Hoi An was… wow. The ancient town was magical. Those little colorful houses. The lanterns. I bought a silk scarf, a beautiful thing. Spent way too much time in the tailor shops, but hey, got a dress made for next to nothing. The food, though, the food was amazing. I had this incredible Cao Lau. Best. Noodles. Ever.

Then, panic. We looked at the time; the last bus was at 5:30 PM. We were cutting it close. We RAN. I mean seriously sprinted, through the crowds, dodging motorbikes. We made it! Barely. I nearly died. A taxi would have been much more sensible, obviously. Next time, taxi. Absolutely. Next time.

Later that night, I felt this incredible sense of accomplishment. And total exhaustion.

Things I learned:

• Buses are cheap, but stressful if you’re not on time.
• Cao Lau in Hoi An is a must-try. Seriously.
• Private transport is definitely worth considering for peace of mind.
• July in Vietnam is HOT. Like, bring extra water, hot.
• My new dress is gorgeous. I need more occasions to wear it.
• Next Hoi An trip? Definitely more than one day!
