How old do you have to be to ride a scooter in Vietnam?
Sixteen? Seriously? That feels ridiculously young to me! Id be terrified letting a sixteen-year-old loose on a scooter in Vietnam, the traffics insane! Its a recipe for disaster. I think the minimum age should be way higher, maybe eighteen, to ensure more maturity and experience behind the wheel – or handlebars, in this case. Its just too dangerous otherwise.

Sixteen! Seriously? My first thought was, “Are you kidding me?” Honestly, that just feels… insanely young to be navigating Vietnamese traffic. I mean, have you seen it? It’s like a chaotic ballet of buses, bikes, and the occasional chicken. It’s kinda beautiful, actually, in its own crazy way, but beautiful and dangerous.
I remember being in Hanoi, just trying to cross the street, and it felt like playing Frogger in real life. I was gripping my friend’s arm so tight, I probably cut off his circulation, and I was a fully grown adult!
So, yeah, imagining a sixteen-year-old, maybe still figuring out parallel parking back home, suddenly thrown into that mix? It just seems… well, a recipe for disaster. No offense to sixteen-year-olds, of course. I’m sure plenty are responsible. But sixteen?
I really think the minimum age should be higher, maybe eighteen, minimum. Give people a little more time to, you know, develop some common sense and a better understanding of risk. Or maybe they should have to take a special scooter safety course or something. I don’t know, I’m just spitballing here. It just feels too dangerous otherwise, doesn’t it?
