What is not permitted in checked baggage?

Checked baggage restrictions include liquids over 3.4oz, sharp objects (knives), flammable items (lighters, matches), and certain batteries (acid/leaking). These are prohibited due to safety and security concerns.

Okay, so you’re wondering what you can’t pack in your checked bag, huh? It can be a little confusing, right? I mean, you’d think you could just throw anything in there, but nope. There are definitely some things you need to leave out. Like, remember that time my friend Sarah tried to bring a full-size bottle of perfume in her checked luggage? Disaster! It leaked everywhere and her clothes smelled like a strange mix of rose and jet fuel for weeks! So, yeah, liquids over 3.4 ounces are a big no-no. Makes sense, I guess…who wants a suitcase full of shampoo?

And sharp objects? Knives, mostly. Think about it – probably not the best idea to have those rattling around down there with all the luggage handlers. Although, I did once accidentally pack a small pair of scissors and nothing happened, but I wouldn’t risk it again. It’s probably better to be safe than sorry, you know?

Flammable stuff is another obvious one. Lighters, matches… imagine if those things got ignited somehow! It’s kind of scary to think about. And speaking of potentially hazardous things, certain kinds of batteries, like the leaky or acidic ones, are forbidden too. Exploding batteries in the cargo hold? No thanks! I heard a story once about…well, nevermind. It wasn’t pretty.

So, basically, it all boils down to safety and security. They don’t want anything exploding, leaking, or stabbing other people’s luggage (or the luggage handlers!). Which, when you think about it, is totally fair enough.
