Which city is more popular in Vietnam?

Ho Chi Minh City is Vietnam's most populous city. While Hanoi is the capital, Ho Chi Minh City boasts a significantly larger population, exceeding 7 million within its urban area and nearly 9 million in the wider metropolitan region. This makes it the clear winner in terms of sheer population size.

Most popular city in Vietnam? Which Vietnam city is best?

Okay, so “best” and “most popular” are tricky, right? It’s subjective! But objectively? Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon, to me, always!) wins on sheer size. I was there last June, buzzing, chaotic, amazing.

Population-wise? HCMC dwarfs Hanoi. Easily. Seven million plus in the urban area alone, according to some figures I saw last year, maybe around July. It’s a jungle out there.

Hanoi? I visited in December 2021. Felt smaller, more manageable, even though still bustling. More charming, I’d say, more traditional feel. But HCMC’s energy…wow.

So, biggest? Definitely Ho Chi Minh City. Best? Depends what you’re after. Hanoi has it’s own unique charm.

Where do most tourists in Vietnam come from?

South Korea dominates. 3.6 million arrivals in 2023. A landslide victory.

China trails. Second place. 1.74 million tourists. Still significant.

My recent trip? Saw it firsthand. Seoulites everywhere. Seriously.

Key Tourist Sources (Vietnam, 2023):

  • South Korea: 3.6M+
  • China: 1.74M+

Personal Note: My Hanoi observations confirm this data. Crazy crowded. Lots of Korean.

What is the food capital of Vietnam?

Hoi An’s totally the food capital, I swear! Hoi An is food heaven. Happened to be there last spring break, like March 2024, with my sister, Chloe. The smells alone… ah! I feel hungry just thinking about it!

We basically ate our way through the Ancient Town. Chloe kept saying “Oh my god, this is insane!” after every bite. Lol.

Okay, here’s what you NEED to try:

  • Cao lầu: These noodles are unique. Seriously, nowhere else in Vietnam tastes the same, due to the special well water, allegedly. I’ve heard that, anyway.

  • Banh mi: Gotta get the Anthony Bourdain-approved one. Yeah, that’s the real deal. Banh Mi Phuong, it’s called. Prepare to queue, though, but SO worth it! Lines can be crazy long so maybe get there early.

  • White rose dumplings (bánh bao bánh vạc): Cute little things, translucent. Like little flowers.

  • Com ga (chicken rice): Simple, but flavorful. The rice is what makes it special.

  • Hoi An coffee: Vietnamese coffee is STRONG, BTW. Iced is the way to go in that heat.

  • Quang noodles (mì Quảng): Another type of noodle dish, but different broth.

  • Banh xeo (crispy pancake): So much fun to eat, especially with all the fresh herbs.

  • Grilled meat skewers (thịt nướng): Perfect for a quick snack while wandering around.

  • Nuoc Mot (herbal drink): Super refreshing. I needed it every day. So humid there!

Honestly, just walking around and randomly trying things is half the fun. I think, the best part was just letting myself get lost in the old town.

Also, don’t be afraid to haggle at the markets. They expect it! I got Chloe a silk scarf, I think, for like half the original price after a bit of bargaining. It was actually kinda fun. Chloe hated it, though. She said she felt bad. Haha.

What is the fashion capital of Vietnam?

Ho Chi Minh City! Fashion capital, huh? Saigon… everyone knows that name. I think my aunt visited there? Maybe in 2022? She got some cool clothes.

  • Ho Chi Minh City IS the fashion capital. End of story.

  • Saigon is another name, same place. Like calling NYC “The Big Apple”.

Beyond the obvious. There’s more than meets the eye, right? Fashion-wise, though. What kind of fashion? Hmmm…

  • Is it streetwear?
  • Or high fashion like Paris?
  • Are there any unique aspects?

It’s definitely a fashion destination now. No doubt about that! It is a fashion fave.

I wish I was there.

Additional info:

  • Key industries: Textiles and garments are huge in Vietnam, impacting fashion.
  • Emerging Designers: A lot of young, talented designers are based in Ho Chi Minh City.
  • Manufacturing Hub: Many global brands actually produce their clothes in Vietnam.
  • Influences: Vietnamese fashion blends traditional elements with modern trends. I love the style.
  • Shopping: There are lots of markets. And you will be able to buy trendy clothing.
  • Fashion events: Many fashion weeks and shows. It helps the city become more popular.

Where is the best place to have clothes made in Vietnam?

Hoi An. It always comes back to Hoi An.

It’s weird, isn’t it? How one place gets branded the place.

Was there once, you know? Trying to find… something. Tailored clothes seemed like as good a reason as any. I wanted a silk shirt, a perfect one.

  • It’s not really about the clothes, is it? I think it’s about trying to fit in. Or maybe stand out, but in a controlled way.

It rained, a lot. Everything felt damp.

  • Remember that street I was on? Tran Phu, yes. Every other shop… tailoring. It was overwhelming. They all promised perfection.

Did I find my perfect shirt? I don’t even remember now. I think maybe that’s the point. The search is more important.

  • Maybe it’s the memories of searching. The small coffee I had every afternoon, it was strong! Those small moments are actually important.

Hoi An is the tailoring mecca, though. You can’t deny that.

  • Price doesn’t always equal quality. That’s what I learned. Negotiation is key.
  • Still, I kinda messed it up. Should have pushed harder I think.

Still have a suit I had made there. Doesn’t fit anymore. Life, right?
