Are prepaid gratuities refundable?
Are prepaid gratuities refundable? Oh my gosh, that was a HUGE question for me! I was seriously stressing about it before our cruise last year. You know, the whole thing felt a bit…iffy, prepaying a tip before you even met the person, let alone knew if they were any good? It just felt wrong somehow.
Then, I found out they are refundable if you cancel – and I practically did a happy dance. I mean, seriously, imagine shelling out that extra cash, only to have something crazy happen. Like, what if my aunt – bless her heart – had her usual "mystery illness" flare up the week before we were due to leave? I'd be stuck with extra baggage fees and a wasted gratuity! The thought was horrifying.
It's just so much better knowing there's some leeway. It takes a load off your mind. Makes the whole booking process a bit less... tense. You know? Like, it's a small thing, but it's the principle of it. It feels fairer, more like a genuine service charge rather than some sneaky pre-emptive payment. It wouldn't have been the end of the world to lose it, but still... that extra money could have bought me, like, ten really good margaritas. And who could say no to that?
